Frequently asked questions

When the agent detects an invalid or disposable email through the Listclean API, it can take several automated actions based on your rules. It can either tag the contact in your CRM as invalid, move them to a separate quarantine list, or trigger a real time notification to the user asking for a better email address. This prevents the email from ever entering your primary sending sequence, which keeps your sender score high. You can define whether a risky email is treated as a hard fail or if it should be flagged for manual review by a human operator before being deleted.
Ceven can monitor your Listclean credit balance in real time using the Get Remaining Credits action. While Ceven cannot directly enter your credit card details to purchase more credits due to security restrictions, it can trigger an urgent alert to your finance team or operations manager via Slack or email when the balance drops below a specific number. This ensures that your lead validation workflows do not break unexpectedly during a high volume campaign. You can set different thresholds for different environments to make sure your production lead flow always has a buffer of credits.
Listclean enforces specific rate limits based on your account tier. For example, the free or entry level tiers have a strict cap on requests per second for the single verification endpoint. If the Ceven agent hits these limits, it will receive a rate limit error from the API. To handle this, the agent uses a built in retry mechanism with exponential backoff, meaning it will wait a few seconds before trying the request again. For very large datasets, the agent will automatically shift from the single verify tool to the bulk verification list tool to avoid hitting these API throttles.
Listclean processes the emails to verify their existence and validity, but they provide options for data retention. When Ceven sends an email for verification, it is processed according to the data privacy settings in your Listclean account. You can configure your account to purge verification history after a certain period. Because Ceven acts as the bridge, it only holds the data in memory during the execution of the workflow and does not create a permanent secondary database of your email lists unless you explicitly tell the agent to save the results into your own CRM or data warehouse.
An invalid email is one that does not exist on the destination server or has a typo in the domain, which would result in a hard bounce. A disposable email is a temporary address provided by services like Mailinator that are technically valid for a short time but are used to bypass sign up forms without giving a real identity. Listclean identifies both, but the agent treats them differently. Invalid emails are usually deleted immediately, while disposable emails might trigger a request for a corporate email address if you are running a B2B lead generation workflow.
The time for a bulk verification depends on the size of the list and the current load on the Listclean servers. For lists under ten thousand addresses, it usually completes within a few minutes. For lists with millions of rows, it can take longer. The Ceven agent handles this asynchronously by initiating the job and then polling the Check Verification Status endpoint at regular intervals. Once the status returns as completed, the agent automatically triggers the next step in your workflow, such as downloading the cleaned CSV and updating your email marketing platform.
No. Listclean is strictly a verification service designed to check if an email is deliverable and valid. It does not provide identity resolution or personal data mining services. It cannot tell you the name, phone number, or job title of the person who owns the email address. It only confirms if the mailbox exists and if the domain is configured to receive mail. If you need identity data, you would need to pair Listclean with a data enrichment tool in your Ceven workflow to get a full profile of the lead.
If the Listclean API is unreachable, the Ceven agent will attempt to reconnect several times using a standard retry policy. If the service remains down, the workflow will enter a failed state and send a notification to the workflow owner. To prevent lead loss during an outage, you can configure a fallback path in Ceven. For example, if the verification fails due to a system error rather than an invalid email, the agent can be told to allow the lead through to the CRM but flag them as unverified so they can be cleaned in a batch once the service is back online.
