Frequently asked questions

Ceven uses OAuth 2.0 to connect to your Attio workspace. When you start the integration, you are redirected to Attio to grant permission for specific scopes. Once approved, Attio provides a secure token that Ceven uses to make API calls on your behalf. We never see or store your Attio password. You can manage or revoke this access at any time through your Attio account settings under the integrated apps section. This ensures that your data remains secure and that you have full control over which workflows can read or write to your relationship data.
Ceven can write data to any existing custom attribute you have already defined in your Attio object settings. However, the agent cannot create new attribute definitions via the API because Attio requires these to be configured in the UI to maintain data integrity and type safety. To automate a new field, simply create the attribute in your Attio dashboard first. Once the field exists, Ceven can immediately begin pulling data into it from your other tools or using the update record action to keep those specific details current across your workspace.
Ceven uses a search first approach to prevent data duplication. Before creating a new record, the agent calls the find record action using a unique identifier such as an email address for people or a domain for companies. If a match is found, the agent will update the existing record with the new information instead of creating a duplicate. You can customize this logic in your workflow to either overwrite existing data or skip the update if the record is already present, giving you fine control over how your CRM data is merged.
Ceven operates within the API rate limits set by Attio. While Attio is highly performant, very large bulk imports or high frequency updates can occasionally trigger a 429 rate limit response. When this happens, Ceven implements an exponential backoff strategy, meaning the agent will wait a few seconds before retrying the request automatically. For most users, this happens invisibly in the background. If you are running a massive data migration, we recommend scheduling the workflow in batches to ensure a smooth sync without hitting the global API threshold for your workspace.
Yes, Ceven can monitor your Attio workspace for changes using webhooks. When a record is updated, a person is added to a list, or a note is created, Attio sends a notification to Ceven. This allows the agent to trigger downstream actions immediately. For example, when a deal is moved to a specific stage in Attio, Ceven can automatically send a welcome email or create a project in your task management tool. This turns your CRM from a static database into a live trigger for your entire business operations stack.
Absolutely. One of the core strengths of the Ceven and Attio integration is the support for custom objects. Whether you are tracking properties, investments, or hardware assets, Ceven treats custom objects as first class citizens. The agent can list these objects, retrieve their specific attributes, and create or update records within them just as it would with standard people or company objects. This flexibility allows you to build highly specialized workflows that match your unique business model without being forced into a standard sales funnel structure.
Ceven can read and write notes to any record in Attio. This is particularly useful for capturing context from AI summaries of calls or emails. When the agent creates a note, it associates it with the correct record ID so the history is preserved in the Attio timeline. While the agent can create the text content of notes, it cannot currently upload raw binary files as attachments directly through the note action. It can, however, include links to external documents stored in Google Drive or Notion within the note body for easy access.
Yes, Ceven can interact with Attio lists to organize your records. The agent can retrieve a list of all available lists in your workspace and then add or remove records from those lists. This is essential for managing pipelines or segmentation. For instance, you can set up a workflow where any lead that meets certain criteria in a form submission is automatically added to a high priority outreach list in Attio. This ensures your team always knows which records require immediate attention without manual sorting.
