Frequently asked questions

Ceven interacts with the HotspotSystem API to request vouchers on demand. However, the ability to generate a voucher is strictly dependent on your current account balance and credit availability within HotspotSystem. If your account has insufficient credits, the API will return an error, and the Ceven agent will notify you that a top up is required before the workflow can proceed. We do not bypass these credits as they are managed on the vendor side. You can set up a Ceven workflow to monitor your voucher levels and alert you via Slack or email when your remaining credit falls below a specific threshold.
Yes. By using the MAC transaction tools, Ceven can pull records based on the unique hardware address of a device. When a user connects at Location A and later at Location B, the agent can correlate these events by querying the MAC transactions globally. This allows you to build a journey map of how your guests move between different venues. The agent can then aggregate this data into a customer profile in your CRM, noting the frequency of visits and the specific locations preferred by that user, provided the device does not use random MAC address spoofing.
HotspotSystem employs pagination for its list endpoints to ensure API stability. Ceven handles this automatically by walking the pagination cursors in the background. If you ask for a full list of ten thousand customers, the agent will make multiple sequential calls to the API to gather the complete dataset. Be aware that very large requests may take a few minutes to fully resolve. For real time dashboards, we recommend using the filter options, such as listing customers by a specific location or date range, to reduce the total number of API calls and speed up response times.
When a user authenticates via a social provider on your HotspotSystem network, a social transaction record is created. Ceven pulls these records using the social transactions endpoint. The agent can then extract the available user data and push it into your newsletter subscriber list or a third party email tool. This removes the need for guests to manually sign up for a mailing list. The workflow can be configured to trigger immediately after a social login event, ensuring that the welcome email is sent while the user is still actively connected to your Wi Fi.
While Ceven cannot monitor the physical hardware of your routers, it can use the Misc Ping tool to perform regular health checks against the HotspotSystem API. You can build a workflow that pings the API every five minutes. If the API returns a failure or a timeout, the agent can immediately trigger an alert to your IT team. This ensures that you know if the management layer is down, even if the local internet is still functioning. Combining this with location based transaction monitoring allows you to spot outages when transaction volume suddenly drops to zero.
Absolutely. You can connect your property management system or booking software to Ceven. When a new reservation is confirmed, the agent triggers the Generate Voucher action in HotspotSystem. The resulting voucher code is then inserted into a confirmation email or SMS sent to the guest. This creates a seamless onboarding experience where the guest arrives with their access code already in hand. You can specify the location for the voucher based on which hotel or branch the guest booked, ensuring the code only works at the correct venue.
Ceven connects to the current stable version of the HotspotSystem API. One quirk of the current implementation is that certain field selections in the list customers and list vouchers endpoints are only available for specific account tiers. If you attempt to pull a field that your HotspotSystem plan does not support, the API will simply omit that field from the response without throwing a hard error. If you notice missing data in your Ceven workflows, check your HotspotSystem subscription level to ensure that the specific data fields you need are included in your plan.
Yes. While the primary flow is adding subscribers, the agent can be configured to manage the subscriber list. By using the list subscribers tool, the agent can identify a specific user by email and then trigger the appropriate management action to remove them or update their preferences. You can build a workflow where an unsubscribe request coming into your helpdesk automatically triggers a removal from the HotspotSystem subscriber list, keeping your marketing lists compliant with data privacy laws without requiring you to log into the HotspotSystem dashboard manually.
