Frequently asked questions

Ceven manages authentication by first retrieving your active projects and their corresponding project auth keys. These keys are critical because Keyword requires a specific auth key for each project to perform detailed data collection or keyword updates. We store these keys securely and inject them into the API calls automatically so you do not have to manually copy and paste long strings of characters every time you want to run a ranking report. If you archive a project or change its settings in the Keyword dashboard, the agent will detect the change during the next sync and update the stored key or mark the project as unavailable in your workflow.
Yes. You can build a workflow where Ceven monitors a separate trend source and then uses the Add Keywords tool to push those terms into Keyword.com. The agent can specify the target URL, the Google region, and the device type for each new keyword. This ensures your tracking remains current without manual entry. For example, if a new product category starts trending in your industry, Ceven can identify the keywords and start tracking your site versus your competitors in real time, alerting you as soon as your page first appears in the top one hundred results for those terms.
When using the Get Keyword Ranking History tool, Ceven can retrieve daily ranking data for up to 180 days. This is a hard limit imposed by the Keyword API for historical snapshots. If you need data beyond this window, we recommend setting up a recurring Ceven workflow that pulls ranking data weekly and saves it to your own database or spreadsheet. This way, you build a permanent archive of your SEO progress that exceeds the native API window. The agent can handle the pagination and data formatting to ensure your external archive is clean and easy to query.
You can trigger on demand refreshes using the Refresh Keywords tool, but be aware that Keyword.com has internal rate limits and credit systems depending on your subscription tier. If you trigger too many manual refreshes in a short window, the API may return a rate limit error. Ceven handles these errors by implementing a retry logic with exponential backoff, meaning the agent will wait and try again automatically. However, for large accounts with thousands of keywords, we suggest relying on the scheduled updates provided by Keyword to avoid hitting these limits and ensuring your credits last the whole month.
Absolutely. During a site migration, you often need to change the tracked URL for hundreds of keywords. Instead of doing this one by one in the UI, you can use the Update Keywords action. You can provide Ceven with a mapping of old URLs to new URLs, and the agent will loop through your project to update the tracking parameters in bulk. This ensures that your ranking data continues to flow without interruption and you can immediately see if the migration caused any sudden drops in visibility for your most important pages across different Google regions.
Yes, Ceven fully supports the multi regional and multi device capabilities of Keyword.com. When adding or updating keywords, you can specify whether you want to track mobile or desktop rankings and which specific Google region you are targeting. This is particularly useful for businesses with local SEO needs or those operating in multiple countries. The agent can pull separate reports for each region, allowing you to see if a strategy that is working in the United States is also effective in the United Kingdom or Canada, and adjust your content accordingly.
Deleting a keyword is a permanent action. When the Delete Keyword or Bulk delete keywords tool is called, Keyword.com removes the keyword and all associated historical ranking data immediately. This cannot be undone. Because of this, we recommend using the Archive Project tool if you are unsure, or building a confirmation step into your Ceven workflow. For instance, you can set the agent to send a Slack message for approval before it executes a bulk delete. Once the action is confirmed and sent to the API, the data is gone from the Keyword servers forever.
The Get Share of Voice History tool allows Ceven to pull the percentage of visibility your site has compared to competitors. You can request this data for various intervals such as 7, 30, 90, 180, or 365 days. The agent retrieves these metrics and can then calculate the growth rate or decline over those periods. This is highly effective for creating monthly SEO reports. Ceven can pull the data, compare it to the previous month, and write a natural language summary explaining whether your share of voice increased and which competitors are currently the biggest threat to your rankings.
